Warm Audio WA-DI-A Transformer-Balanced Active Direct Box

Warm Audio’s Active DI box is designed and built to deliver premium performance from the inside out. On the inside, you’ll find 100% Class-A circuitry using premium components, featuring a custom USA-made CineMag transformer. This transformer ensures that any analog color and character from your instrument or signal chain is preserved before hitting your mixer or audio interface. On the outside, a selectable -3dB to -30dB pad helps you dial in the ideal signal volume, while the ground/lift switch eliminates ground-loop noise. This active version is powered by 48v phantom power or dual 9v batteries. For added versatility, the Active DI can also be switched into passive mode.

The Warm Audio Active DI allows you to run high-impedance signals from guitars, basses, and keyboards directly into low-impedance mic preamps, mixers, or interfaces. It also enables you to send signals over extended cable runs without losing volume, tone, or significant high-frequency information. This road-worthy DI box provides a professional solution for impedance mismatches, ensuring you never diminish the tone of your instrument or performance.

More

Applications:

  • Electric Guitar
Record electric guitars direct to audio interfaces with both passive & active DIs. Active DIs work great with passive electric guitars that don’t have active pickups.
  • Electric Bass
Send clear, balanced signal from bass guitars even while plugged into a bass amp. Use active DIs for passive basses and passive DIs for basses containing battery packs.
  • Keys & Synth
Take unbalanced keyboard outputs and convert to clear, balanced signals for recording or FOH.
  • Acoustic Guitar
Active DIs for acoustic guitars with external passive pickups.

Features

  • The variable pad on the DI boxes is designed to help properly set levels from the DI to the mixer or audio interface. If distortion is audible, engage the bad and begin to apply attenuation until the signal is loud and clear.
  • The Phase switch reverses the polarity of the signal, correcting potentially poorly wired cables and eliminating phase-related noise issues.
  • The “instrument” setting on the switch works with all types of instruments using ¼” outputs. When using a signal from a guitar amplifier is desired, switch to “amp out” switch to send your amplified guitar signal to the DI and then out via the XLR output. **
  • Eliminate noise like hum and buzz caused by ground-loop issues. As more pieces of equipment connect to various power supplies, the chance of ground-loop hum issues increase.

**WARNING: Most guitar amps require a reactive load (a speaker) to be connected to the amplifier to prevent overheating. The best practice is to connect a ¼” cable to the ‘THRU’ input directly to a properly rated speaker cabinet. This ensures the amp is loaded properly, preventing serious damage to your amplifier.

ACTIVE ONLY - BATTERY MONITORING & ACTIVE/PASSIVE SWITCH: The active version of the DI has LED indicators to show if 48v is being passed and if the internal battery is the supplier. The active DI will accept 48v from the mixer or interface source to save battery power. The active/passive switch changes the operational mode of the DI from active (power engaged) or passive, using no 48v power.
